Study of Nurses Knowledge about Palliative Care: A Quantitative Cross-Sectional Survey. Indian Journal of Palliative Care 18(2) 122. http://dx.doi.org/10.4103/0973-1075.100832 State how data was collected. The study took place in a multispecialty tertiary care health care. Participants were health care professionals that were attending a professional development program for nurses alone. The ethical approval for the study was obtained from the ethics committee in the institution. Every participant was supposed to provide their written informed consent before participating.
The participants filled self-report questionnaires (palliative care knowledge test PCKT) that were earlier used by Nakazawa et al. The questionnaire had 20 items statements about pain. Each person was supposed to answer incorrect correct or unsure. PCKT was divided into five subscales that included gastro-intestinal problems- 4 items psychiatric problems- 4 items dyspnea- 4 items pain- 6 items and philosophy- 2 items. Defend why this method was appropriate for this specific study.Self-report questionnaire- PCKT was appropriate in this case because of the design and the setting of the study. The study involved 363 nurses in multispecialty hospital making survey method to be appropriate. Survey works best when collecting a lot of data from many participants in a short amount of time.
4. What statistical tests were used for analyses?
Comparison across professional and individual variables for the two dimensions were done using one way ANOVA. Statistical tests were conducted using correlations that were one in Karl-Pearsons co-efficient in SPSS version for windows.
5. Defend why these were appropriate for this specific study.
Karl Pearsons correlation method was used in this case to provide the exact extent in which the variables correlated. The method also provides an opportunity for estimating the value of dependent variable with reference to particular values in the independent variable.
