What complication(s) may he encounter as he gets older for both conditions?
Mr. M has had asthma for the past 30 years, and is now 45. He has controlled his asthma properly but now wonders if his asthma will cause any additional complications as he gets older. Mr. M works as a project manager for a commercial construction company. He spends most of his time (80%) in the office and the remaining time on-site meeting with superintendents and contractors. He has noticed that he has recently put on some weight and is having a more difficult time working on site, especially during warmer months. He is also recovering from a non-work related injury to his knee. Mr. M was in a car accident which resulted in a knee strain. His orthopedist has released him to work light duty and he is seeing a pain management specialist. However, Mr. M feels that he isn’t fully functional even though his doctor says he should be ok to work in the office and occasionally on a construction site. Mr. M is concerned about how his asthma and the musculoskeletal injury will impact his functioning in the future, as well as his ability to continue working as a project manager.
