One of the key indicators that will help evaluate success is clear empathetic communication between clinicians and patients, which can lead to shared decision-making. The better educated that both parties are, it will bring out the best results. That’s why it’s good to ask questions because when patients are not informed in some instances it can be too late to get important affairs in order. Also, educating our health care staff, so that they know what questions to ask as well as how to answer questions from the patient. The pre-and post-assessment questions will provide insights on the perceptions of patients and health care professionals on issues concerning end-of-life choices and advance directives. A Likert scale is a useful tool to assessing effectual or emotional responses by indicating the level of support or disapproval towards policy positions, political opinions, social issues, or impactful situations (Aarons, 2020). Most importantly, the Likert scale is easy to use in phenomenological studies and enhances the collection and interpretation of data. For effective implementation of advance directives in clinical settings, it remains vital for the patients and healthcare practitioners to adequately understand the documents’ contents and implications of accepting the indicated terms. In essence, the patients and their relatives must provide informed decisions that are well-thought and guided by the patients’ health preferences while observing their right to autonomy in determining acceptable medical and emergency procedures.
