Evaluate the prevalence related to each question associated with the following subcategories on the BRFSS site:
Goal: Understanding the data by using online resources (such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, World Health Organization etc.) will underscore the magnitude of the problem and why physical activity is so important to health.
Search the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website at www.cdc.gov for the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS) link (www.cdc.gov/brfss) and select the Prevalence and Data Trends Database icon.
You will then select a state of interest, choose at least three years (e.g., 2008, 2009, and 2010), and choose the physical activity category. Evaluate the prevalence related to each question associated with the following subcategories on the BRFSS site: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, exercise, and overweight and obesity.
Report the prevalence you find for each question, in each subcategory, and then compare your state data to the national averages. What do the trend data suggest, and how do you interpret those data?
